The question for this blog is: Can our dog come to our wedding?
Obviously there are a few things to bear in mind – most importantly will your dog be happy at a busy social event, does your venue allow dogs to attend to name just two. But taking all that into consideration, if you want my honest answer, well you don’t really need to ask – it’s a yes! Furry friends are your family and deserve to be involved when their ‘pawrents’ tie the knot.
Whether they have a role or are just showing up for photos and pats, dogs at weddings bring extra joy to your day. They can also bring some unpredictable moments that make your day even more memorable!
So, here are a few tips to make it work for both you and your beloved canine.
Dogs with jobs
Many couples choose to make their dog the ring bearer, just like Fig for Harriet and Allison at their ceremony, or have them walk down the aisle, as Nick and Jason did with Freddie and Alfie at Wergenrose Farm and Samantha and Tallullah at the Oxwich Bay Hotel.

If you’re not sure your dog will cope with a formal ‘dog duty’ – just having them present is special enough.
Have a dedicated doggy sitter!
Unless your dog is super-chilled, a dog sitter is probably a good idea. Your pet chaperone could be a friend, a family member, or a professional – but make sure someone is responsible for their care. You can even share the responsibility between a few people if needed. Then you know that after the fun and cuddles, your dog can be taken away for a nap and a relax.

Let your guests and suppliers know
This can sometimes be overlooked. As a first step, always check that your venue is happy for your dog to attend. Then let your guests and suppliers know there’ll be a dog at your wedding. Everyone knew that Axel and Rupert would be at their respective ‘pawrent’ ceremonies and they really enjoyed their photo opportunities!
